Joys of Christmas Day

by Kia   Dec 21, 2004

The house was decorated
Lights were on the tree
Christmas was everywhere
As far as you could see.

Presents were wrapped
The children couldn't wait
They were full of anticipation
Of what joy that day would create

Every day they were told
Santa will so be coming
Christmas was approaching bringing
Them tunes you cant stop humming

Last few days of shopping
Couple more gifts left to buy
When its opened what joy there is
When he smiles and the delight in his eye

The children awake on Christmas morning
Thinking about wrapping paper and presents
They cant wait to start unwrapping their gifts
Cant wait one more minute so they awaken their parents

With each present opened
The smiles begin to grow
When the last gift is done
They go play in the snow

Mom begins to clean up
Throwing the paper away
She starts to cook dinner
One fit for Christmas day

Filled with ham and potatoes
Corn and green beans
Dad eats so much
He must unbutton his jeans

Work all done, time to relax
This year's Christmas was the best
So many good things received
We sure are blessed.

Lovely. This is an excellent poem. It beautifully and accurately depicts what christmas used to be like for everyone. When your young and naive, when christmas isn't about buying. It used to be like this for me, before I got all pessimistic and cynical. 5/5.
