A Christmas Tale

by Jesse Lafferty   Dec 22, 2004

Flickering of Christmas lights
Father reading a story of Ole Saint Nick
The children huddle as he recites
Mother burns another wick
A noise is heard from the ceiling
Taking notice as a whole
Seeking the noise with wondrous feeling
Could it be from the north pole
The children scuttle off to bed
As the parents nestle them in
Goodnight with a kiss mother had said
Father smiles at his kin
They observe through the window
As their eyes grow weary
A profound HO-HO-HO
Awakens their theory
Soon they fall deep into a slumber
Dreaming of the hours that awaits
Imagination whispers their number
Could it be a new ball or skates
Excitement roars their thoughts
Early morning the alarm rings
The children bounce from their sheets
Racing down the hall as mother sings
Santa has brought unbelievable treats
Amazed the children stop
At the sight of all the presents
They begin their ritual swap
With the gifts bought with cents
As they were poor
Gifts wrapped with love
And nothing more
A dinner made of
Donations sent by the Holy Ghost
Made their cheer brighter today
Their tummies are filled with a great roast
As the children begin to play
A warm Merry Christmas to you
For making a child’s wish come true
