Winning the Game

by Mia   Mar 22, 2005

Its the bottom of the 7th
your team is down by one
if you lose this game today
your season will be done

there are now two outs
and its up to you
your team is praying
that you will come through

as you step up to the plate
you look to 3rd
the crowd is silent
they haven't said a word

you look at the pitcher
as sweat drips from your cheek
you try to give her a smile
but you are now too weak

you get in your stance
and take a warm up swing
your team is getting nervous
as they start to cheer and sing

you look over at your coach
shes standing nervously still
your afraid your gonna blow it
your feeling really ill

you look back at the pitcher
as she tightly grips the ball
no matter the outcome
you've given it your all

she winds up
and throws it fast
it feels like forever
but it reaches you at last

you swing hard
and hit the ball
"FOUL"
you hear the umpire call

theres now one strike
but your hanging in
your getting really nervous
you really want to win

you get back into stance
as she throws once more
a fast ball is what
your hoping for

you cant see the ball
so you just swing away
its soaring through the outfield
"let it fall" is what you pray

the outfielder dives
and misses by a mile
as you sprint past the bases
you cant help but smile

the man on 3rd scores
and you continue to run
if you get out
your season will be done

they're scrambling with the ball
as you run to 3rd
they throw the ball high
it looks like a bird

you run home
you might get out
"SAFE"
you hear the umpire shout
