Nice... I'm not fully aware at this momment but a reader can get a clear sense of lose. For a while I thought some one died, but if you will never see them again or feel that then yeah... I understand how it come out as that.
I guess the empty room and the missing piece of your life that it may repersent helps fill in some gaps. Over anylizing is fun :D. Everything that happened may seem like a dream, but it sounds like you don't want it to fade away. :D ... I smile too much :P
