Happy Birthday, Robert

by Erika Lamorie   Dec 9, 2005

Today is your birthday,
And I just wanted to say, "Congrats."
There will be many more to come,
This definitely won't be your last.
You're only a little boy,
So you don't have to worry about much,
But maybe in a few years,
You might experience your first crush.
I'm so sorry I couldn't see you on this special day,
But I will see you soon, I will find a way.
You're job as a kid,
Is to have as much fun as you can.
And then you'll have to get a career,
When you become a man.
Get a good education,
So you can stay smart,
You don't want to end up like your dad,
Whose job is pushing carts.
Choose your friends wisely,
And make sure to you, they are good.
Enjoy your time with them,
And do the things I never could.
Be nice to your teachers,
They're the ones who manage your grades,
Be careful with the deals you make,
And the things you decide to trade.
You look so much like me,
And that is something that I love,
You look like a sweet little angel,
Who was sent down from above.
I will find you someday,
One way or another,
Happy birthday Robert,
My dear little brother.

I wrote this for my brother a long time ago. He's the one who's been in foster care for over 3 years, the only biological one I have, but never knew.
