I love the style in which you've written this pieve ...starting the first stanza in each line with "once in my life"....
Many poems are unable to pull this one off but you pull it off wonderfully Steven !
You can feel the ache in your heart in the last stanza .

This peice shows depth and it really shows your intrest in poetry i love your wording and i also think that the examples eg when you said=Once in my life I felt so free,
free as the cool wind that stirs the trees
