Mom's Baked Alaska

by Connie   Jul 9, 2006

Ever hear of a cake called Baked Alaska?
It has ice cream on the inside ~ really.
Mom use to love to make this for us
Because it always seemed to amaze us!

A special treat that Mom had started, was making
This cake when someone new joined the family.
She loved hearing them tell her it couldn't be done
Because she loved showing them that it could be!

I haven't had one of these cakes for many years
It is definately one that I will always remember.
To me I think of this as a "magical cake"...
How can ya bake it without the ice cream meltin'?

I can tell you it does work, just don't ask me to explain it.
I wish Mom would have made just one more to show
All her Great Grandchildren this "magical cake"
I just know it would have also amazed them!

Again, lacking in poetic flow. But it's good on imagery, different from much of the melancholy of P&Q poetry, and it carries in it a warmth which I find very endearing.
