Yep! This is so true, especially when you let yourself get controlled by your emotions...

your poem was great! it had "emotion" and you can really "feel" it....

this part though..

Following instructions, I stretch my knees
and realize to my surprise
that this ocean I was "drowning" in
was only toddler-sized!

could be better if you choose words that are more (not sure if this is the right word...) appropriate?... what i mean some words kinda break the rhythm...

but that's only a suggestion! :) your poem is great!
