High School

by Alessandra   Sep 6, 2007

In the universe, the world exists as a place

Serving as as a stage for the flawed human race

But a world can also be a time

Though your definition of world can be different from that of mine

Because I think high school itself is a whole different world

Separated no longer, boys with boys or girls with girls

It is a world where innocence is left behind

With the crayons and the cartoons in the depths of time

It is a world that exists for only four years

Filled with joy, filled with pain, with laughter and tears

No one before their time will truly understand

And those after their time are now forever banned

It is a society of a select few

So much to learn, so much to do

And the members of this society may not be old

They may not be wise or do as they are told

In fact, they're young and oftentimes foolish and rash

In a world whose existence flies by too fast

But mistakes are made, and lessons are learned

Life goes on, despite some scars and burns

It is a world like those movies come to life

Who knew so much happiness can exist alongside so much strife?

There's all the dramas revolving around love and lust

All the dances and parties where attendance is a must

There's the betrayal of friends and other loved ones

The classes that serve not knowledge but only teenaged fun

The text messages that race across screens are the communications of choice

The girls giggle and obsess over gossip and boys

Everyone is a rebel, resistant against authority

So many stereotypes to fill, so many stereotypes to be

High school is a world where first love is often found

It is a world of exhilaration and nerves for those college-bound

Where crushes are chased after and hearts are broken

So much has been said, yet so much is left unspoken

Sure, there's the homework and tests, but there's so much more

It is a world that exists inside everyone's core

It may only last for four years, but it lasts forever in one's mind

Often reminisced and thought about for the rest of time

The scars from high school will forever last

No matter how far it lives in the distant past

And if you're at your high school reunion, you'll wish you were back

To shuffle back to class, to have one more carefree laugh

No kids or full-time jobs or bills to pay

Work is no work and play is all play

You may complain or grumble, you can whine to your heart's content

Rules are made to broken, or at least to be bent

There's involved so much deceitfulness and so many lies

But as you clutch that diploma you'll surely start to cry

Think about all those friends, all those memories you're leaving behind

Scared of the future and what you will or won't find

Appreciate what you have whilst it's still there

Nothing lasts forever, it won't always be here

So go out and party, hang out with your friends

Stay out late till God knows when

Go to homecoming, go to the prom

Make your own bid for that much-coveted crown

And then later, as you walk across the stage

Look at your class with a smile on your face

Thank everyone in your life for giving you these memories

All that you hear, and all that you see

You will forever cherish, forever remember

But remember forever never lasts forever

Now it's time to close this chapter of your life

A new chapter awaits, in this book of your life

Because remember, high school is a world that never dies

It may not always exist physically, but it'll always live in your mind
