    FIRST PLACE:
It Could Be A Good Excuse [ monotetra ]
    By: I R Jordannn

    Her childhood was a world, it seems;
of paper hearts and paper dreams.
    tearing slightly beneath the seams,
From midnight screams, from midnight screams.

    Maybe memories - stored away,
What they are, she cannot say.
Subside the feelings left at bay.
Forget to stay, forget to stay.

With a hand along a paper thigh,
    Laying among the butterflies.
    Symphonies of ruptured cries.
    Sang lullabies, sang lullabies.

There's a note strapped to her shirt,
Promising her teacher that she's not hurt.
With bruises along her linen skirt -
What's she worth? What's she worth?

The teacher stares - as she spoke,
And as she did, her heart, it broke.
Of paper dreams, and daddy's "joke".
Went up in smoke, went up in smoke.

So, she lays upon the ashes of -
Her paper dreams and daddy's love.
Praying nightly that the Lord will come.
From up above, from up above.

    Run and tell mama she won't be proud;
tell her daddy's going away for now.
Promise her you won't make a sound.
Get out, but how? Get out, but how?

You know, it could be a good excuse,
Just to cover up daddy's abuse.
Maybe the rope's a little loose.
Where's the noose? Where's the noose?

So, suicide was her only way -
    The maybe memories stored away.
What they were, she could not say.
Forgot to stay. Forgot to stay.

With the note strapped to her shirt,
She promised that she will not hurt.
    Secrets held beneath that shirt.
    And bruises underneath her skirt.

The little girl with the paper dreams,
A childhood in another world, it seemed.
Broke her paper heart, you see.
With midnight screams, with midnight screams.

The monotetra is a new poetic form developed by Michael Walker. Each stanza contains four lines
in monorhyme. Each line is in tetrameter (four metrical feet) for a total of eight syllables. What makes
the monotetra so powerful as a poetic form, is that the last line contains two metrical feet, repeated.
It can have as few as one or two stanzas, or as many as desired.

I chose this particular piece because as a child I was abused by my father and this poem was rediculously hard for me to write .

    SECOND PLACE:

    Just Another Attempt
    By: Jess

[And again] I'm trying to pen my heart
As my words fall upon the page...

Please, pay no attention to my madness
These are just simply words confounded
Belonging to an unbearable love for him
    'Don't move, you're heart's surrounded'

'Do not say another word, do not speak'
I find a new strength through revolution
Please, don't instruct my psychotic mind
My love does not approve of its execution

I told you, pay no attention to my madness
[And again] I'm right. Yet again, I'm right
Try a little reverse psychology, my friend
It may just elucidate the lines that I write

[And again] I'm trying to pen my heart
As my words fall upon the page...

I can tell you; this really is a useless task
Fastening my hands like you always do
I have the right to remain silent, you say?
I'll remain silent the day my love's untrue

Did I not say, pay any attention to this?
Because really, it's only a simple rhyme
[And again] I lie to myself in perplexity
Apparently I've now committed a crime

'We'll give you one warning, one only'
Please, you know I'll fight 'til my death
If this life won't let me hold him close
Then go ahead and steal my final breath

[And again] I'm trying to pen my heart
As my words fall upon the page...

** I chose this poem for two reasons. It's had some great feedback, but it was also a great release for me. This one was about the relationship I'm in at the moment, long distance, and bout the different people and groups who are against it. I was proving a point to myself in writing this, and it honestly showed me that I'm stronger now. Thanks. :)

    THIRD PLACE:
    Close To The Flame
    By: Beautiful Chaos

    I hurt too feel,
    And feel too scream,
    Open my mind,
    To the darkness of dream.

    Flames start to flicker,
    And kiss at my skin,
    Igniting a fire,
    That burns me within.

    I'm lost to the madness,
    Embracing the flow,
    The pleasure you feed me,
    Is all that I know.

    Devour me softly,
    Suffer with want,
    For all that I am,
    Is all that you taunt.

    My burning desire,
    Fast beating heart,
    My long starving soul,
    Indeed every part.

    I lustfully slumber,
    Without any shame,
    Far from the real world,
    Close to the flame.

*I chose this poem because it is one of my favorite pieces.
