A whisper on the wind

On silver glass, I write your name
only for it to fade away,
sprinkle your ashes over sunlit plains,
only to bless the ground again.

A crooked picture in a cobweb room,
a haunting silence amid the gloom,
I see the shadows slowly loom,
hangs over the rose that never bloomed.

Your spirit now; a burning essence,
    a whisper on the wind.
    masks my murmur of acquiescence,
    a whisper on the wind.

The winter breeze, chills my bones,
    you never called me home,
and now; by the lake in the bitter cold,
and over your grave, I’m skimming stones.

Drops of rain confuse my tears,
the reflection; your eyes, crystal clear,
I hang my head off the edge of the pier,
    I’m watching as you disappear.

Your name is now; a echoed caw,
    a whisper on the wind,
masks my pain as the misery thaws,
    a whisper on the wind.

You took your life on this very lake,
Sleepless nights, I wished you’d wake,
you were bestowed, then taken away,
your final breath, an eternal ache.

They found you pale on a creamy shore,
    your glowing cheeks; no more,
they found you with your white dress torn,
    your eyes spoke deep remorse.

Your spirit now; a burning essence,
    a whisper on the wind.
    Masks my murmur of acquiescence,
    a whisper on the wind.

And I guess I’ll never ever know,
why you left me cold, alone,
and why you’ve left a gaping hole,
and why its filling with woe.

We burnt your body on the Sabbath day,
when the sky was dull, and the clouds were grey,
and as the flames slowly took you away,
I let my mercy take your place.

Your name is now; a echoed caw,
    a whisper on the wind,
masks my pain as the misery thaws,
    a whisper on the wind.
