Cheering someone up

...This is going to be really hard to explain, there is this guy that is really depressed. He even says that he wants to die. He doesn't believe that i want to help, and I am always here. He is upset because I broke up with him :( ...and he wants me to leave. I made a promise to him a long time ago that I would never leave and one day I would be his "hero"...does anyone have any uplifting words that may cheer him up?

...it's a much longer story, but it's too hard to explain.

Sounds Long - Complicated - Many variables
Depression and talk of wanting to die are very serious matters, a) He is because he wants and needs the attention and love from you, or b) Really just wants to die.
If it is a) Try to be encouraging and find fun active things to do, watching movies doesnt cut it.. Try to do this without giving him the hope of you guys getting back together unless this is something you are willing to consider.
If it is b) Then I would seek professional assistance, if there is any chance he is serious about taking his own life, then professional help really should be the only option.
