How do I write song lyrics

I used to write poetry but have had a writers block for about a year. I've basically given up on poetry. I tried writing lyrics once but the lines are written much differently and I couldnt get anything on paper.

Does anyone have any tips on how to start a lyric of any kind?

Umm i just sing randomly, and when i get something i like i write it down. alot of my poems started out as songs. well i hope that helps you. Shanik

I agree, it is very different. Lyrics are created to fit into the song itself. Poetry is created to be itself.

I can not do lyrics nearly half as well as poems. If you can then i am jealous :p
