Split Personality?...

and i think.... i have MDP...

i found out cases but its rare on men
and its common on women

...

is there someone you've known that you think
you have MDP?

Multiple personality disorder...wouldn't that be MPD...LOL

I think the disorder is fairly rare. Why, do you think you have it, if so what makes you think so?
I'm studying psychology so I find it interesting.

I've search for the symptoms and its true the disorder is rare some says its non existent

Actually I think it does exist...the movie "Cybil" was based on a true story, supposed to have been the worst case of multiple personality disorder ever recorded. It is an interesting concept...how one part of your subconscious mind can be completely unaware of other parts, I guess you wouldn't get bored!

Yep... they said when you "switch" you become unconscious and the alter takes place

Actually, according to the Freudian concept of the conscious and subconscious, material that is of a potentially traumatic nature is suppressed in the latter during childhood, and if such material isn't resolved, then abnormality will result. If what Freud claimed is true, then how can the subconscious be affected by negatively charged material when the conscious parts of the mind are not in play? Would they not be stimulated in order to have an effect on whatever bad thoughts/feelings/experiences manifest in the subconscious mind?

If we look at Freud's concepts further, we could easily look to the role of the id, ego and superego. These hypothetical structures represent: (id) the pleasure principle based on the individual's desire for satisfaction, (ego) the reality principle, (superego) the morality principle. These structures conflict with each other because they work on very different values and, if the conflicts are not resolved, then abnormality is very likely due to a lack of ego development. A lack of internal balance may therefore explain the mind's battle to conform to one, single personality.

Well if Freud has anything to say about it, I'm sure it will come back to a sexual conflict , since most of his ideas center around that...all very interesting. I would love to get to talk to a person with MPD.

I'm going to be the naysayer in the group and say no one on this forum has SPD. or MPD, whatever you're calling it.

If anything, some of you are hypochondriacs...

I am of the understanding that someone with MPD would not be able to function properly in day to day life and would most believably not have any idea they are victim of the disorder. That, and those around you would become extremely aware of your split personalities.
There is the off-chance that you are bipolar, in which case you could experience extremes of emotion - you are extremely calm and collected, suddenly you are uncontrollably angry or depressed. Extremes of emotion that can make you into 2 different people.

MPD: Whereby two or more distinct and separate personalities are manifested within the same individual, each displaying different interests, memories and behaviour patterns.

It's rare. Your personality is not simply a matter of, are you .. nice or mean, generous or selfish.. instead it means those things as well as what hobbies you are interested in, what your favorite color is, what memories you can recall. You are literally 2 different people within one body and these two different people do not overlap, they switch back and forth.

So my question to the poster of this topic - do you sometimes snap into reality and not know where you are or what you've been doing for the past 5 months or 5 hours? Do you sometimes feel very disoriented? Have loved ones around you suggested that your behavior is off-putting and random?

Well let me say I had a great friend who had MPD as u call it and she did function day to day yes it was heard she had 24 know alters so the drs said well let me say there was times when the alters were out and she did not know it and it could so hard for her to handle u see she killed herself last yr at the age of 27 and I miss and still love here and there is alot on the net to learn about all this so thats all I have to say

Its ok we all our on views but I just want to let you all know I had personsl experince with this probmle some ppl have to face it is true and it does happen but to be honest she is in a better place now and I thank God for that.
