Yes I feel that poems that are simple are more beautiful. I believe that the most precious things are simple like love, loyalty and etc.

    We travel across the sea,
To achieve a dream to be rich like priest
    Courage gives supply into veins
Why other can't see the pains
Assemble human body like a machine
It raise the race and continue...
Less rest & out of comfort to find the doors
Where I can set my goal,
    I move in abroad
I can't take my step back and rely on buck
    I don't wait for luck
    I must Move on
    May hump on my way,
I have to across those without stay
Time to come to see the joys
    My humanity is dying
May nature does this with each mankind
We left our unaccomplished lifespan behind
I see the world into parts,
    It can't separate the bards,
    Their intellectually can't be shrinking,
    I keen to overcome
My Path is full of sorrow
    I can't join the celebration
As a traveler I must move my step forward
    I will take rest tomorrow
First I need to reach at my destination

I can see both sides of the issue. I think the kind of poem it is, makes a big difference. If you are trying to describe an emotion, then imaginitive adjectives are perfect. But if you are writing a dark poem, a lot of times simple wording carries the most impact. The biggest problems come when people write in a way to confuse the reader with how mysterious they are. Just write from the heart.

Both can work , I do believe that people prefer complicated mostly here some people think it takes more talent I don't believe it does at all I like both but prefer simple being over complicaited takes away the power

Depends on the mood, but poetry written simply or not is an expression

  • Jhierren Paz

Yeah its all an expression, I agree, it really depends on the mood

Those who are their mother tongue English they probably chose more complex words as if they had a lot of vocabs in English it is also the same to other people who were not English nature speakers that they can make their poem out of their own language with complexity. However there are some who wants to do poetry w/ lots or some of words that aren't very familiar w/ them just for fun or for other reason. But I believe that almost all who wrote poems have a simple & also a complex when they feel that it should be so. So, then, it might also depends to the kind of audience you want your poem to be read and to be understood.

    As simple as i am,

Life without you one heading further strive

and I remain calm like my lyrics,

I wana enjoy my life melody along,

and I remain voiceless looking her eyes

    Creating a such voluntary words,

I remain sleepless looking at sky

    Then I got a flute

    It got bless by god,

    It deliver thoughts,

    with magic of melody,

    thoughts starts conveying message through,

lifeless got alive and as i being lenient,

she come close and being familiar

floating in the air flute being convenient,

each tune touch her heart easier,

All poetry is tricky and beautiful if written the right way.

I write both , it all depends on the poem , I believe
That if you write to complicaited it takes
Away the power and emotion of the piece ,
But if its too simple it's such a cliche.

    Both can be beautiful :)

In sense only simple poetry is genuine. why? because if the complication is intended, the poetry is fake, if it is necessary and the writer has done anything to his power to make it simpler and shed light to the matter, but still is beyond the grasp of ordinary people, or one must educated in some way to understand that, I still would categorize that poem simple. Because natural complexities, are very simple in their own nature.

Like water , it is so simple and clear. but still could mold to any complicated form of different containers and still hold on to its clarity.

I think simple writing can be very, very beautiful.

For example here a touching poem called 'muse' by the poet Benjamin Saphiro

    Muse

    Your fire
    Is my fire.

I think this poem the very embodiment of both simplicity and beauty. I hope this helps.

    A Poem with...

Simplicity and true emotion is great.
Complexity and true emotion is greater.
Simplicity and forced emotion is annoying.
Complexity and forced emotion is fake.

    The end.

Poetry is an art form which exists in many different forms and styles beneath the veneer of the author. If simplicity is the immediate result, therein lies its' true expression. I never give much thought to penning a line as it robs me of original flow. I've looked deeply into the thought process of many posters here and learn to appreciate the less complex styles.

I enjoy reading these comments, for I have often felt as if my poetry doesn't compare well enough to others' as I prefer simplicity. When a poem has to be decoded/deciphered then the meaning is lost. Simple can still be strong and it's easier for me to understand. I'm not illiterate, but when someone is trying to paint a picture and nothing is forming in my head, than I am lost and stop reading the poem.
