About an empty house

I cant recall the name of the poet though he or she is famous. the poem is about coming home to an empty house, and being afraid of the darkness the main character rushes in through the door to light a lamp before shutting the door.

i know i entirely butchered it but hopefully some one will remember the plotline and know the title and poet?
