My School Banned Black

My school district has banned black clothing, nail polish, and excessive black makeup. There is no "Goth" clothing or accessories to be allowed at any time. Now, this doesn't really apply to me that much, since I'm not Goth, but it angers me... That's discriminative against a certain group. It makes no sense to me, and the school board won't listen when we tell them how discriminative that policy is. Does anyone else find this rule idiotic? What are your thoughts/opinions? Are there laws against it?

Yeah, I thought it was stupid. They banned certain bands on clothing that they thought implicated "violence." They said black was a "distraction."

Okay. This is some shit right there. I'd get any one and everyone to wear all black. make a protest. AND DONT GIVE UP. How are they going to say ''black is inapropriate" they might as well ban all black people from that school. (no offence to any one, but im just trying to get my point across) And. I'd freaking get it on the news. And then i'd start some shit. i'd be playing my hard core type o negative shit really loud. and no one could say a thing, because people can wear their fuckin short skirts, and tube tops w/out a bra and shit. Thats distracting, too. Or people who wear their pants to their knees. That would be me, standing up for myself, using anything and everything to get my point across, and win. So yea. This is really fucked up. I'd be getting a rally started. You know what i mean? Or i'd write some big band, and ask them to come play at the school. But have it be a rock back so they werent aloud to come in, and then you'd get the media involved. haha. i dont know, my minds racing. I feel your pain. Thats some shit right there. Just be greatfull you dont have to wear uniform at your school. I had to for a year, untill i protested and changed the policy.

Yeah, we are protesting. I myslef don't wear Goth clothing, but black doesn't implicate anything. What if all Goth people start wearing pink? Are they going to ban that, too? They all want the "perfect" American district. Screw that, we are individuals... They'll probably end up deciding that brown hair and eyes are too close to black and make us dye our hair blonde and get blue contacts. I swear, they are Nazis...

that is shocking, protest, protest, protest! That is like totally taking away people's right to be an individual, u should be able to do/wear/say anything you want to. Surely that's taking away basic human rights or something! Phoenomenal discrimination!!! At my school you cant wear socks above your knees, some teacher said we couldnt wear coloured coats, only black or blue ones, she woz very fussy about jewellery, even though her hands, arms and ears were covered in it, you're not allowed 2 wear make up but everyone does anyway, you're not allowed ANY jewellery what so ever. Stupid school.

I have Goth friends, and their clothes implicate their character. Black is an acceptable color to certain groups, persay. It is a school color... So, of course, letter jackets and cheerleading outfits are exempt from the rule. I have friends who atten Columbine HIgh and tell me my district is wack... apparantly, Columbine isn't even that rough on the dress code. I find that interesting.

I can understand the need for safety, Bob, but just because you sport black clothing doesn't mean you'll shoot out your school. You could be nutso and wear Abercrombie. No one knows... And if you really are that messed up, changing your clothes won't change the problem.

Frankly, it's a stupid rule. We'll protest, hard, but I doubt it will make a difference...

holy shit. i'm guessing that you live in a small town, cuz that's where i live, and our school system is the same. they havent sank so low as to ban a certian color, but you get the idea. I think that those people have WAY to much time on thier hands to make such rediculous rules, and every single teacher and principal needs to teach a school in phily for about two weeks so they can find out what a TRUE problem is. (shooting,rape,ect.)

I my school we have some rules.
of course we get in trouble for skin showing, like bra staps, midrift etc.
But starting this year we were not allowed to wear hats- which might be stupid, but it a really good saftyhassard.
Last year our school had a lockdown becuase some guy wearing a hat covered his face from the secerity cameras and started a fight. Luckly no one got hurt.
As for the black issue, I find that utterly stupid. They cant stop you from wearing a color!!! I could understand a drug realited shirt. but a color.. what is this world coming to??!!

In my school we can't wear hats, but we never could so I don't really see that as much of a problem. And last year the banned us from wearing gloves on the cold days of winter (and our heat wasn't working for a while) on of my teachers was like (Nothing I can do...just take them off...and if you freeze...you freeze. That's the policy and I can't change it.) I think that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard...(No gloves) but supposedly gloves are gang related or something...so...

Well, we can't wear coats or gloves or scarves in school. We have one hell of a dress code.
