Jail or not?

This lady in toledo killed a 5 or 6 yr old boy when he was getting off the bus..THe thing is it was an accident...I understand accidents happen and she didn't purposely kill the little boy..but 1) She was on her cell phone while she was driving (which in the toledo area that was possibly going to be a new law) and 2.) It's a big yellow bus you can't miss it..and there's a big flashing light that says stop...She's going to jail of course but her family says she shouldn't because it was an accident..What do you think? In my opinion I still think she should go to jail accident or not...when the bus says stop that obviously means stop...Maybe since it was an accident she shouldn't get the full life in prison but I defiantley think there should be a punishment..how about you?

I think the fact she was on her cell phone is a big factor. We had a bus driver when I was in school run over a child and kill him! The kid dropped a paper and went in front of the bus to pick it up. The driver thought he watched all the kids walk across not seeing the little boy walk back across for his paper he dropped. He was an only child. The bus driver was not held accountable for it. He felt so bad he left the job and has to live with the accident the rest of his life. The parents of the child moved out of state. That I believe was a true accident. He was not impaired by any means. He always watched each child cross it just so happened when he ran in back in front the bus it was to high off the ground for him to see. It was a very tragic accident. I think in the case you're describing there should be some sort of punishment I don't know to what degree. Very sad but I really don't know how I feel about jail time!

She shouldnt of been on her fone when she was driving... here its against the law... but come on.. of course she should go down! It wont bring the little guy back! But it will make her learn a lesson... dont go on your fone when your driving!!

MIke..I like your observation as well as yours Bob..Now that you've explained it that way I think she should just live with it..I always wished if someone killed another person..they should be killed the same way...In this case yeah it was an accident...But like you said jail really wont make her learn a lesson ..or will it? I think Mike said it best..But by what there showing on tv..she'll be going to jail for 10 years and have her license be suspended for 3..

Of course there should be punishment! I suppose if you were in the same situation you would want them to be lenient as well... I don't know.
