All wonderful and beautiful things eventually die; nothing can stay forever.

I just read The Outsiders in English and this poem was in there. We had to tell what we thought it meant, lol. But anyway, I think it means that every new beginning of life is golden. It's like the beginning of a new day, it's dawn. But when you go farther and farther into life, it's like going farther into the day, and everything becomes regular. And eventually the gold goes away, just like day becomes the night, the end. This is just my opinion on it.

I think that this poem is referring to youth. It is saying that our youth is gold and the hardest to hold on to. We try to hold on to it for as long as possible but no matter what we do, it soon fades away.
