The point is you're not happy now, how long are going to be happy being his friend? What about when he gets a new girl?

Life is short, be open, honest and if he says no, well, at least you tried and all might not be lost as he may well understand if nothing else.

if you have feelings for him and you think he does for you, talk yo him. amd if he makes you happy, try to see what you can do about your relationship.
