"The mind is a blank piece of paper" Locke

    > The mind at birth is fresh, corrupted by nothing until the first breath and experience of life. From that point on, a picture is drawn on the paper of your mind. It's always there as an active or subconscious memory, just as pen on paper, it's not simple, if not impossible to erase, but it's always there. The shape of the picure is altered as time goes on - whether it's a welcoming or manevolent picture is determined by that certain person's experiences.

"Education is what survives when what has been learnt is forgotten" B.F.Skinner

    > I think what Skinner meant here was that even when the specifics of a subject have become gray in your mind, you still remember the basics. It's the same principle held in Locke's quote. Once a mark has been made in the mind's canvas, it is always there to be recalled when needed. For example, you won't need to know how to solve and graph logarithmic systems for daily situations, but it's good to know if you end up on Jeopardy or need to help a younger sibling.

"I think, therefore I am" Descartes

    > My interpretation of this quote is basically that if you believe you are, then you will be. Descartes highlights the importance of visualizing your goals in order to acheive them, because if you don't believe you can, you will never be.

Skinner: example, speech. You learn to speak at ayoung age and although you can't remember the lessons mum and dad, brother and sister taught, you can convey your thoughts without having to think about how to do it.

    Descartes: Self awareness.

    Locke: Beware leaky biros.
