Harry Potter - Stolen?

Has anybody noticed that some of JK Rowling's major ideas, aren't in fact hers.

    1. The pub "The Hog's Head" is in fact a real pub in Stevenage.

    2. George, Ginny and I think Fred are names from Goodnight Mr . Tom

    3. In Goodnight Mr. Tom, William sleeps under the stairs when his mum throws him in there. Low and behold, in Harry Potter he sleeps under the stairs, mostly when Aunt Petunia or Uncle Vernon throw him in their.

    4. Both Harry and William (Goodnight Mr. Tom) find a best friend that they are inseparable (sp?) from, and both also become very good friends with a girl.

I'm sure there is more that i'm yet to discover, but I feel this story isn't exactly totally her own.

    Okaaay...

    So report her.

    Peaces.

P.s. Number one is useless. Actually everything you put down is useless. Why? Because Harry Potter could just be one big folktale.

    Don't know what a folktale is? Here's a link:

    http://falcon.jmu.edu/~ramseyil/tradmays.htm

Reason why Number 1 is useless: There is a place in Goodnight Mr. Tom that is an actual place. It's called London.

lol Ari and yeah i think she is right, what exactly is the point of this? I have read many books that are alike, and besides if you dont like her books dont read them, no one is making you.

I do like the books, I've read ll of them but I was just saying she's stolen ideas and wondered if anyone else thought this. Jesus you people need to lighten up a little!

It's pretty difficult to write anything thats totally original anymore, almost every situation and character mix has been done before.

J K Rowling ain't that good a writer...the new book is written quite poorly i think..and yes most of the ideas have been done before.

Thank you for actually being a little ... considerate Kevin!

Yeah I agree she's not an amazing writer. The ideas are there but its poorly written.

I haven't read her new book but i plan to and I think she is a great writer. And Kim we posted our oppinions to what you wrote so I don't think you need to tell us to "lighten up" its what we believe and was just a response.

I didn't say it was plaigarism, I was just stating that she has used some ideas that weren't totally original and it just annoyed. Ok, Apathetic Soul if you don't like what I'm writing, don't come in here it's as simple as that. You don't HAVE to reply to anything I post. And it's mostly you who needs to chill down just a bit.
Ok maybe the fourth point was a bit pointless but there was no need to take the sarcastic view about it you retard.

Jelly Bean, Yeah I appreciate your opinions, just sometimes people tend to take their point of view TOO far.

I didnt say it was plagairism. Ooh I hate Madonna. Do you have any examples of what she's plagairised? I can't say I've noticed but then again I try not to listen to her.

Just consider for a moment that the Harry Potter books were written a a childrens' series. They are fantasy, make believe and a mixture of JK's imgination and yes quite possibly some reality and facts thrown in as well. However as already mentioned there are many writers who use similiar ideas and concepts in their own story lines to that which others have used in the past. It gets kind of hard not to overlap some ideas when you consider the millions of books that have been written over the deacdes.

Plus how many children do you honestly think will read the Harry Potter books, to compare them to Goodnight Mister Tom, or any other story. I know many children that would never have heard of this title at all. They are just reading Harry Potter for enjoyment, and how can that be considered a bad thing if it gets them to read? I mean it is often so hard to inspire some children to read anything at all, even in school, so if they do it in their own time as well then that has to be a bonus.

Plus I would just like to add the George, Fred and Ginny are very common English names. So does taht mean that any book that was wriiten after Goodnight Mister Tom was copying that idea?

    Thank you Nici...sheesh.

I also think that Apathetic has the full right to come in here and put in a statement about yours. Can you stop her?

No need to take sarcastic view? Well that makes things a bit boring, now doesn't it?

How did we take our point of view "TOO far"? I'd like to know...my statements tend to be less than a foot apart. And as Jelly Bean said it was a mere response, and you're the one who had to complain about it. So who needs to lighten up?

My point of view anyways was that the thread is pointless. Can you stop a "best-selling" author from making all that money? Why post about it if there's nothing you can do to change it? Plus your points made to identify the author as a thief of ideas were weak.

    Peaces.

i would just like to say that no matter what u can link just about anything to anything. i'm sure if u wanted to u could link harry potter to the friggin u.s. goverment! i think it's just a coincidence! not everyone's ideas come straight from there head..they just need a lil inspiration. i don't fault the author for it! she' a friggin genius! she inspired imagination in pple everywhere...are u gonna say the ideas that they got off of her book are stolen to?..everyone needs a base for what they do....im sure if we looked at some of ur poetry we could prolly link it to anothers...because of the same idea or the way u write it. it's just concidence! don't be so hard on her. and i hope this isn't to harsh..im just saying....i hope u don't take it the wrong way.

Ok. So what if she MIGHT have stolen a few names and the fact Harry LIVED in a cupboard? Who cares? She still came up with the plot, the character personalities, the things they say, and the events that happen. Who cares about a few names? I'm sure there are other people named Rachel in the world with a sister named Emily.

(I'm talking about myself, yes. I have a sister named Emily.)
