What song sticks out in your mind, when you realized that music, within popular culture, really had to be taken seriously?

My moment came when I first heard David Bowie's 'Life On Mars?' There's some great imagery in that song. It seemed to stand alone in the 1970s. After hearing that song, I realized that it wasn't just about a catchy tune.
