aww wow, it can be hard growing up without a dad, You should do what your heart tells you. Maybe it would be good to have a dad around 17 is not too old to grow up still.

17 years, wow. Well, if my long-lost parent wrote a letter to me after 17 years of nothing, not even a birthday card. I would be hurt. A parent can ignore you for your entire youth, and then act like it never happen? Well, that would be my 1st thought. Then I would think deeped. Why? Why would he be writing to me? Maybe hes sick, and knows he doesnt have much longer. Or, maybe his life has been a hurricaine of events and he just let me slip from his mind. If my parent wrote to me like that I would say:
You abandoned my for my youth, and now you ask for me back? You've hurt be for 17 years and those years cant be mended. You werent their for my graduation, my first baseball game, or my first boyfriend. Dad, I love you and nothig can take that away. But, I cant live with you because you've hurt me. However, I would love to see you again if you are willing to. Maybe we can go to lunch sometime.

    Heya,
I have grown up without my Dad, too. But its not the same, as we have had a small amount of contact. But at the beginning of my life, he was not in my life at all. For about three years, and i know that when he finally did come back, i loved him so much, and still do. So i dont want u to have any regrets, he is your father, maybe you should hear him out, give him one chance?

I wish u all the best in the future and hope u make the right choice

I was going to respond but I don't think anyone could give you a better answer than the very well thought out advice above from Annelyse.
