You could also add that one of the most important things you can do is use your consumer power wisely.

There are some horrible companies out there like Nestle, Coke, Nike etc etc...all the big fish...and every time you buy one of their products...you are effectively supporting them...Coke the company kill people...and it takes 5 times the amount of liquid in a can of water to make every drink.

Nestle kill babies...Nike employ poor starving children.

Charity shop, cycle, eat organic if you can afford it...support local shops for local people....plant things.

"4. More than 1,000,000,000 (one billion) trees are used to make disposable diapers every year." - That is why we have tree farms. For example, just because we eat fries, doesnt mean we have a potato shortage... we grow to consume...

"6. Some rain has a pH of 3 or 4..." - Yes, and some rain is pH 10 or 11, it all equals out.

I do agree that some recycling is good. For example it is more efficient to recycle aluminum.

But recycling paper and plastic can take upto 7 times more energy then creating new.

Scientific fact "Nothing is ever created or destroyed, just changed from one state to another"

I think we do need to save energy and im all for certain techniques. but dont give in to all the hype. Some forms of recycling can be much worse to our environment then letting it rot and creating anew.

For example paper is a terrible thing to recycle. For starters it takes upto 7 times more energy to recycle it. Secondly they have to bleach it. and that creates a toxic sludge that they cant do anything with. I believe that letting paper rot and growing trees is a far better way then trying to recycle.

Read up on the energy it takes to recycle. Most of the things you are told to recycle can actually damage the environment.

    C. Fowler, Not everything equals out, if everything were as simple as that the average temperature would not be on a constant rise.

Many man made products do not break down or change from one state to another, in fact they are dumped in landfills but do not break down at all.

There are also very safe methods of recycling which you should read up on and not mislead everyone.

Glass is a product that can be reused quite efficiently also.

also Fowler the billion trees used each year are fully grown the tree farms can't keep up plus they don't plant full grown trees

Plastic bags, plastic products, polystyrene are items that are dumped in large quantities that never break down.

The single worst thing is the millions of tons of disposable diapers. They were originally envisioned as a convenience item for parents away from home. But then they became a cursed item of universal usage. And for the sake of convenience we have the planet inundated with billions of tons of virtually non-biodegradable waste.

I am an avid recycler but that I'm far from the level of hysteria that some preceding posts indicate. And some of you have presented statements that simply are not consistent with the facts.

Steven - I tried the site you suggested but it has big problems. No matter what country you click on, Afghanistan comes up.

But thanks just the same. That kind of info would definitely be useful, as long as it is accurate.
