Guess it happens to many of us. Me included.

It seems like a trend? I had a poem posted 2 days ago and the numerous comments I received were all positive and then all of the sudden the rating went from a 5 to a 3.8 in less then 12 hours. Go figure?

I appreciate the comments from the people as they have taken the time to let me know what they think.

Whereas, we all know about the silly old down voting issue, it's been around since Adam was a boy but that is not what writing is about is it?

Hmmm...I haven't been downvoted enough times yet. Does this mean I'm not good enough?!

It is the nature of the poem that is attracting downvotes. It has nothing to do with its merit. The same thing would probably happen if you had written a poem taking the opposite viewpoint.

I think it indicates the character of people when they just submit a low vote anonymously and then lack the courage to explain or support it with a comment. They know who they are and they couldn't feel too proud of themselves.

Lydia, If you take the time to look, it is not the nature of the poem. It happens to most on the top rated poems recent poems section of any category.

I've seen it done to another poet who had a poem that was a 4.8 or at least a 4.7 and it was systematically downvoted to a 3.5? The poem was excellent and I would use the same phrase that Bob once used - "Some just would not know a good poem if one came and hit them over the head", or more precisely the downvoting is out of jealously and spite.

On one occasion I spoke out in defense of another poet who had their poems systematically downvoted and in return had my poems systematically downvoted upon also.

I personally think the poem "The true terrorist" was well written and if people can't respect you for your views and writing a poem that's tough on them because they are narrow and small minded!

"Lydia, If you take the time to look, it is not the nature of the poem."

Steven, I did not mean that downvoting doesn't happen for any other reasons. I was only referring to the circumstances of this one poem. Annelyse has written a lot of poems and almost all of them are hightly rated. Maybe you can explain why she wasn't experiencing such downvoting until she posted the poem at issue?

This poem was downvoted for obvious reasons which I will not go into here, you need only but look into the comments posted with the poem as well as look in members dicussion forum and you will find the answers.

Man, wouldn't this site be like a billion times better if people didn't downvote? Or if it didn't have people who are completely hopeless at english? - I know i'm bad but am I THAT bad - Or people who DiDN't TyPe Lik DiS? Or people who were just SO depressed but they have to come here to tell everyone to get attention?
Man apart from that THIS SITE IS GOD DAMN AWESOME!

Lyd, apart from a few "black sheep" this site is pretty damm awesome!

This site would be a whole lot better if poems weren't attributed simple numerical values at all.

I've scanned this place heaps, and the poem rating are NO indication of skill or quality...and this is the 100000th thread about downvoting and votes in general.

Remove the option...let this site be about comments and communication only...and not numbers.

    Kevin,

You know I couldn't agree with you more on the issue about removing the voting, but remember not long ago Janis did a on line survey and yet the majority wanted it, so what can we do?

The majority of other poetry sites out there are not about votes, comments only.

"This poem was downvoted for obvious reasons which I will not go into here"

Steven, If this is what you believe, I can't underxtand why you chose to take issue with me. That's what I was saying to begin with and all along here when I said it is because of "the nature of the poem."

  • Steven Beesley

Oh don't flatter yourself, I wasn't taking issue with you, but just spoke out about the unjust way another member had been treated. Your not the focus.

    Annelyse,

Remember you are amongst friends and Lydia I was not trying to take issue against you at all. Sorry if I came off harsh!
