How are you planning on creating it? Where would you get funding?

How would you spread copies around? How are you going to make people aware of it's existence? Where will it be available? (I do like the idea by the way)

I know I would fall outside your target audience but I think this is a GREAT IDEA!

I hate seeing people mindlessly following a pop culture that idolizes the emptiness of celeb lives. Not all celebs, however, are attention grabbing airheads. One of my good friends is an actress and past grammy winner but lives a pretty normal life. The basis of our friendship comes from common interests we share that are way apart from her "public" life. There are plenty of other non-status seekers like her who will never be chased by the paparazzi unless they become embroiled in some sensational scandal, which isn't likely. But still, there are SO MANY things in life that are far more interesting and worthwhile than fawning over celebs.

I take it you are thinking along the lines of an online magazine for young people who actually choose to use their brains to think as individuals. I like the idea of reader-supplied content.

I’m sure you know that it is rare for a magazine, whether online or in print, to be supported solely by reader subscriptions. So if you are planning on ad support, then pick your target market and carefully plan how you are going to reach out to and capture that market. The most desirable advertisers are interested primarily in the demographics of your typical reader.

One thing I would question is your statement “We will show them what originality is.” Once you have your audience emulating your example, they are no longer pursuing originality.

I wish you the best of success with this idea.

I like your concept of "originality," now that you 'splained it. ;-)

You can have a personal web site hosted for free. I have one at:
    http://lydiao.beplaced.com/Home/index.htm

It's a free sub-domain under a server based in Russia. They say I can have 100 megabytes for free and I'm using maybe 1 mb with 10 pages.

You might want to experiment the same way at first.

I used Paint Shop Pro to create the graphics and I composed the pages with Front Page Express, which is free. It's nothing elaborate but that's the way I wanted it.

It costs about $10/year to register your own domain name, which you will want to do. The basic cost for web hosting might be $6-20/month. But with a commercial web site the biggest cost is bandwidth (data transfer) which can rise dramatically as your web traffic increases. That's when you need to have a stream of ad revenue. The content-related ads from Google can provide a simple way of generating pay-per-click income. Beyond that, I haven't much specific knowledge about acquiring advertisers. I also have a commercial site for my consulting business but the traffic is not heavy and I haven't needed advertising.

Have you any ideas on what to call it?
    Do you need name suggestions?
Could it have a column on vegetarianism?

    Real People
    Original Adolescence
    True Beauty
    Soul
    Now Magazine
    Truly Teen
    Inner Beauty
Urban Reality-a magazine for here and now, like it really is.
    Truth Image
    Image of Truth

    ....
Will add more ideas when I think of them- What about pet care tips? Also a small space on health, how to overcome obesity, etc.

My father is a newspaper magnate so I picked up a little bit about how to keep a paper going. I hope I can help.

I think any article on vegetarianism ought to be balanced with an an article on something like a how-to guide for butchering your swine. ;-)

"I'm thinking this would be a "fashion" magazine..."

I would also recommend staying focused primarily on your core subject aimed at a single market segment. The more you try to be ALL things to ALL people, the harder it is to achieve excellence and to retain the interest of your readers.

Lydia has a point, you kinda have to focus on a certain age, I mean, is it grandma's knitting guide or, ten ways to catch your crush?

You could also add a How to or Do It Yourself column. I've seen this in other magazines. People send in tips on how to make purses and other fashion accessories out of everyday stuff. They also send in make-up tips that are kind of out of the ordinary.
    Good luck!
