Calling all Scouts - Girl Scouts

Just wondered whether anybody else on this site is a member of Scouts/Girl Scouts?

I am a Cub Scout Leader in the UK and also help at the Scout Troop attached to our pack. I am interested in hearing from anybody, UK or abroad, who is involved with these groups, either as a Scout or a Leader/Helper. I will respond to all who contact me either by posting here or via contact member on my profile.

With the centenary of Scouting happening next year (2007) I am keen to learn as much about Scouting in other countries as possible. I would be happy to link as 'pen pals' via email or snail mail, with the potential to swap badges etc If anybody from abroad is thinking of coming to the 2007 Jamboree here in England I'm sure I can give your some good places to visit and some info on Scouting in this country.

I was in girl scouts all up till 6th grade. I am in 10th now, but from kindergarden-5th was a long time. My mom was my troup leader. It was some good times, and met many great people

I am, whoo hoo! But now all my troop (down from fortyish people in the old days to now eight) does now is work on the Gold award. Which is fun, except for all the requirements I have to finish first!

hm... i just quit scouts not too long ago, right after i got the chief scouts award.. i couldn't stand how our group kept making us do volunteer work for the benefit of the group, but not the scouts or the community

but, my best friend is a cub pack leader right now :)

I think that Scouts in the USA must do a lot more 'volunteer work' than us here in the UK then. I mean my Cub Pack and Scout Troop do a bit of fundraising but no-one is 'made ' to do it. The kids choose to help on their own. There's no point trying to force someone to do something if they don't want to be there! The kids have to enjoy what they are doing aswell!

Also we don't do the whole 'cookie baking/sale' thing. Is that still done in the USA?

Of course we still have rules, but what successful group doesn't? it's all about keeping an equal balance between fun and discipline 'Serious Fun'
