Where does a laugh come from?

This may sound like a stupid question but it was something we talked about in class that I asked because if you seriously think about it, where does a laugh come from?!...the question is not what makes you laugh because obviously, something funny, and yes the noise we make comes out of our body, but where...Where does the laugh start at? Is it confusing? I was just thinking about it like, all bosily functions we do come from somewhere, so where does a laugh come from...the same place as our voice?

It starts from your diaphram (sp) (breathe out as much as you can and when you feel a sort of kick to pull breath in that 'kick' is from your diaphram)
then the air passes trough your vocal chords. This is how we can change the pitch of a laugh. That's what happens in our body I don't know however the reason our body laughs as in where we would need it for survival.

A laugh comes from a joke ;)

I have no idea about the scientific aspect of it, but the above replies seem pretty logical.
