lost faith

I lost my faith in God, in religion a while ago.
My parents are muslim, my mother was previously a christian and I was bought up to believe in God.

But I can't understand why religion which is supoosed to be about peace and loving each other causes war, or why if their is a god he would allow such terrible sufferings to happen to people, to people who don't deserve it. Like the thousands upon thousands of innocent people dying everyday because they were put on earth somewhere were there isn't enough food for them to eat.

I want to believe again, I want to have something to hold on to when it seems like the rest of the world is falling down around me. I want to believe that were not so alone in this world.

I want to understand so that maybe my faith could be restored again. So if anyone has any helpful suggestions or ideas I'd be very grateful.

Your definatly not alone on this one...I myself am I strong beleiver of God but I know many people with your feelings..What upets me nowadays is people who misbehave and look to God like "Why me? WHy did you let this happen" after they made their mistake....People have minds of their owns and make choices..if you choose to live a sinful life do you think God will really help you? Of course, but not until you seek him and show you have faith in him....I think God also allows things to happen in peoples lives to see how they react to it and to see if they believe in him...Oh God is one of the greatest things don't lose faith, as long as you have faith he is there for you regardless!

I dont believe in staying out of organised religion - religion is nothing of the kind but a matter of ones self, ones heart, ones soul and belief and that is something you need to figure out on your own.
Like yourself I am a Muslim, I reverted to Islam on my own account and its been a miraculous and welcomed change in my lifestyle and in myself as a person.
I am not saying this is right for you...but it was the best thing for me most definetly.
I say you should do extensive research as I did, read as much as you can listen to those willing to tell about thier own experience and learn from those while making your own judgement about what is right for you as an individual.
You can always email me if you wanna chat a lil more :o)
    Good luck in your journey

Organised religion is a control drama designed to keep the masses in their place through fear.
Believe in yourself, for that is where you will find the answer. It makes me laugh when I hear people give up their own power and say 'it's god's will', or something similar.
The truth is that we are on our own, we have evolved through a biological chemical infusion, there was no creation beyond that recognised by science.

Hmm, I know a good quote for this, well, when I say quote - it's a lyric from a Placebo song called 'Protect Me From What I Want'

'What good's religion, when it's each other we despise?'

Hmm, Placebo come up with good stuff like that.

    Peace. [Sole]

I do actually like that lyric and it makes a lot of sense.

I felt just like that a while ago.

And people say "You're just 13, you wouldn't know"

But there is suffering, and there is pain.

But you can't blame it all on God when there's a devil out to create pain.

God made beautiful lives, and somehow, along the line, we created things that destroyed that beauty.

Actually, the last pope admitted that the devil no longer exists. I saw him interviewed on Newsnight about six/seven years ago... now then if the head of the catholic church is saying that the devil doesn't exist... I wonder who else might not exist as well... I'll let you work that one out for yourselves... he he!
Don't know about you, but my parents made me by... oh well if you don't know how it works yet...

How would the pope know? I thought him and God were pals...

    Makes you wonder....
