    why or why not?

I dont think they are, choice of food comes from early eating habits and that starts at homer. and i also dont think we shouod be trying to change canteen menus to be more healthy because there isnt always going to be someone to tell us what we should or shouldnt eat when we leave school

I think they should have both healthy and other. You need some fat etc sometimes. You can't live on rabbit food your whole life. Even though I do like the whole rabbit food stuff, but that's not the point.

I think schools should be obliged to provide a healthy alternative for childrens lunches. However I think a child overall well being and health is a parental responsibility. My kids are not given lunch money - I happily pack there lunches full of substantial meals and snacks on a daily basis because there health is MY responsibility. I also educate them on healthy food choices and inform them of the dangers of consistently eating unhealthy foods. There diets are in no way restricted and they can eat sweets and junk food in moderation however with the way they have been brought up they prefer to enjoy healthier alternatives.
As parents we have to STOP shifting the blame to others and start taking responsibility for our own actions or lack there of.

stupid question, but do you call a "Canteen" what we call "vending machines"?..if so...they may be particially to blame....I agree that obesity starts with earlier age eating...you cant just gain weight from simply eating from a "canteen?"...i mean you can, but to be Obese?
Let me tell you all something about our school that I am quite sick of....my friends look at me because I am all for healthy lunches....my school has 2000 kids in it and its so sad that they feed us what they do..we have either pizza, chicken nuggets, french fries, free lunches (they are sick a gooey and yuck), or chips and icecream and pop....I don't eat lunch and worry the hell outta my parents who think I am getting an eating disorder but if only the graduates from a long time ago step into a lunch room nowaday and see what we are being fed..I'd start packing the kids lunch ago no matter what age

Risa..you said it best "As parents we have to STOP shifting the blame to others and start taking responsibility for our own actions or lack there of"
^^^ well put! My mom says that to the school board a lot who actually claim kids to being fat because of what they eat in school which is not all true
