My poem on here, formerly titled, To D*****, was taken off due to reported plagarism. However, I wrote the poem, and it was never plagarized. Is there something wrong with the system, or are poems just being reported? also, when a poem is reported, does the reporter have to tell where the poem was plagarized from? It doesnt seem fair that a poem I know i wrote and never plagarized was deleted for a reason that is not true.

When a poem is reported for plagarism, it is checked by the moderators to verify the claim. Are you sure it was deleted for plagarism, and not for having illegal characters in the title?

Poems can be removed for having illegal characters in the title? What are illegal characters? Why would someone seriously remove someone else`s poetry from the site just for having something they personally didn`t like in the title??

Rule #3 of the submission guidelines is:

Do NOT write in the TITLE of your poems requests for COMMENTS and/or VOTES. Do NOT use any SPECIAL CHARACTERS to make your title stand out.

Maybe someone considered the asterisks as special characters. Did you recieve an automated email about the poem? If you did, forward it to me and I'll take a look at it.

"Why would someone seriously remove someone else`s poetry from the site just for having something they personally didn`t like in the title??"

    It's not a personal thing.

I am sure. they sent me an e mail saying that it was deleted for plagarism. I responded to the e mail asking politely for some kind of idea as to how it was plagarized.

and i will foward it to you. I had the poem up for about 3 months though, and i am not the only person who puts asterisks in their poem titles.

^^ sorry if that sounded rude, i wasnt trying to be...

It's fine. If you send me a copy of the poem, I'll check out stuff to see if there was a reason that it was considered plagarized. If everything checks out, you should email janis or Dainz and request that they remove your penalty points, and repost the poem, though maybe with the title of "Dear ___" or "Dear Blank"

those are both artsy enough, I think =)

    Okay, thank you.

I have astericks in 2 of my titles, to bleep out the name of the person it was to. Just for the fact that nobody needs to know (sorry that sounded rude)

And if the site sends you an email telling you that your poem is removed for plagerism, shouldn't they clarify where the poem was plagerized from, and why they assumed that it was plagerized?

I love this site, but some things just seem flawed to me, and this brought it to light.

Sorry about your poem Allanah, I hope they staighten things out for you.

No, i would never put please read in my title. then people dont read them. I bleep out the name, as shadowofaravyn said, because I dont know if he has an account on here or not, and i dont want him thinking im completely obsessed. ;-)

"And if the site sends you an email telling you that your poem is removed for plagerism, shouldn't they clarify where the poem was plagerized from, and why they assumed that it was plagerized?"

I don't think the poem was plagarized. When a poem is deleted, the poet gets a generic message stating that it was deleted for not sticking to the rules, whether it be plagarism or some other rule. There is a big OR there, since the difference between plagarism and other rule-breaking is pretty important. I guess suggesting more information when sending out automated emails is a good suggestion for a change to the site.

I agree... More information when a deleted poem message is sent out is a great idea. I really would like the poem back though, it was one of my favorites, and i dont think i had it written down yet.

Ah. In that case, you need to email Janis and Dainz and ask for it back. That is, unfortunately, a long process. Try to save all your poems before or immediately after putting them on the site... you never know what could happen. I'm pretty sure they can get it back to you... but it may take a while.

okay, how do i email one of them? it seems like a stupid question, but i have never had a poem deleted.

I deleated mine by accident :p you need to find the moderator page and their names on at the top of the list

    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/moderators.html

go there, and send Janis and Dainz a private message about your poem, it's title, why you thought it was deleted, and how you don't have a copy for yourself. Expect a long wait though... sorry.

okay, thank you. and i am used to long waits, i have a little sister. :-) lol

I think the whole ordeal is somewhat a mess. If they're going to delete your personal work without much clarification, then they should make the process to get clarificationa d retrieve your peom a little easier.

Believe me, we (the mods) would like it very much if that were the case. We unfortunately don't have the power to retrieve deleted poems, and probably will never have that capability. The admins often have extended absences, and we hope that you, along with the rest of the community, can bear with us and our limited powers.

well, you do your best. It's never fun having limited power, but I'm just worried about Ally's poem.

If it were me, I would be very upset, but poetry is my life on paper. And to ever suggest that ally would plagerize almost sickens me.

she loves her poetry as I do mine.

I sent the message asking for the poem back...

    aww crud...

    I FORGOT THE TITLE!!!

    oops.

  • Sean Allen

I've just made a mod suggestion to make the messages less generic. That'll filter up to the powers that be if the other mods agree.

I love my poems too. I have them all written on paper though, and saved to my harddrive, and emailed to myself... so I'm pretty good =)

wow... i have most of them in a poetry journal, which i let my mom read, and since im only fifteen, if she were to go a page too far... oops! some i just dont want her to see... i should e mail them to myself! thats a good idea!

  • RetroRavey

I wouldn't want mine stole but I basically just save them on a disk, well I save the ones on my original account.

my moms computer stinks... uggh. so i can pretty much write them down and save them and send them to myself, but i have nothing else to do with my poetry except love it...

thank you for all the help... if i can find the poem, i will repost it, though under a different title. Maybe "Heartbroken", considering that is what he did to me...
