Tv the now drug of the masses governs the way we talk, think, predict, buy and interact.

Should children be encouraged to stay away from it?

I read a funny Calvin and Hobbes cartoon strip where Calvin was reading Marx and said to Hobbes, "It says here that religion is the opiate of the masses... What do you suppose that means?" And a television responds, "It means Marx hasn't seen anything yet."

I feel like watching television, especially at a young age, can stifle creativity. When I was young (not that long ago really) my family didn't have the money for a TV, so I grew up outside or with some building blocks. I don't remember being bored or really feeling left out. If I can manage it, I'd like to see my children raised in a way that will keep them independent from television for at least a sizable first chunk of their lives.

I think that for kids who are 10 and under tv should be more like a reward. Like if they do what they're supposed to then they can watch 1 hour of tv or something like that. Or that if they watch tv they should be supervised so you know what they're watching. It's better to be outside then inside anyways.
