Claiming your work as their own

I was going through one of my friends myspace and came across one of my poems (nameless of course) and I wondered if it was possible to find my name by using google. So I typed in a line (in quotes) and find that I don't find this site, but several others with MY poem under a different name and author. Now I know you can't really stop this (and its flattering to a certain extent) but personally it kinda shocked me when I saw this.

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Several times...there is no way to fully stop it, it will always happen.

Probably only happens if you're a good poet... hahah, for us mediocre ones we're probably not in danger... you could copyright, and um, well sue?
It's probably not worth the effort. The web is a dangerous thing, when it comes to literary thieves.

As long as you know you wrote it, it should be fine.

I think If that ever happened to me (maybe it has i dont know) i would feel very flattered but annoyed at the same time the best thing i spose is not to go on these web sites like me then youll never know

but you must have some fans out there who think you are worthy of copying bit like cover groups doing an Elvis number lol
