Rich or Happy?

A couple days ago I had to write a survey for my Psychology class, and I did it on money. And I just wanted to get other opinions on one of the questions.

Would you rather be rich and unhappy (maybe not unhappy... but... so-so, I can't think of a word) or poor and completely, truely happy?

Personally I rather be poor and happy. You only live once so you might as well live through it being happy.

money cannot buy you true happiness so Id rather be poor to get my share of happiness

No matter how much money you have, people who are poor or live an average life tend to be a lot more happy. I wouldn't give up my life for all the money in the world. I definitely would rather be poor and happy.

I'd rather be happy, of course... money just means material things, and I've seen people piled with valuables, as in cars, clothes, houses so big they can't even count how many rooms there are, boats, expensive vacations, and yet, not a single laugh. Barely a smile, in fact.

Money can buy you satisfaction. Not happiness.

"Money can buy you satisfaction. Not happiness."

^ I know what you're saying, but I don't think that's entirely true. If you're not happy, then how can you be satisfied with anything else? You hear stories of many rich people who have it all, yet they are not content. They are not happy. Material things will not satisfy you, or 'fill that void' in your life. Sure, you can be satisfied if you buy something that you've always wanted, but if you're not truly happy, it doesn't get to the root of the problem, whatever that may be. Because eventually, the thing that was so appealing and that you've had your eye on for months will eventually lose it's shine. In my opinion, nothing can satisfy someone and make their life complete like God, who will never leave nor forsake, and His love lasts forever.

Personally I think "Happiness" is an unachievable goal so I strive to be satisified or content with what it is that I do have. Otherwise I find myself chasing this impossible elated state of being better known as happiness which in my mind simply does not exist...so I'll take the money thanks :o)

I would much rather be happy than be rich. Money is important in life but happiness is worth more.

i cant believe that not one of you would sacrafice a happy life to be rich and get what you always wanted, its not greedy or morally wrong..but those who say poor and im happy are confused...there not happy there envious as can be of the rich people and grow to hate them and envy them, personally i dont care what you think of me for saying this but i would so go for the money..unless it meant giving up my family, if i had to do that id say up yours..and be poor

    october xx

Having enough money to eat, that's hapiness. No, that's just a really nice bliss. Clothes, a roof over your head, and food, that's great.
I went to visit some members of my family in Australia a few months ago, and I have a half-brother who is a millionaire. He lives in what could practically be called a mansion, with a disco-themed room, a really long pool, a tennis court, palm trees, horse stables (empty, though. Nobody bothered to ride)
Three members of the family had gotten plastic surery. It hadn't improved a thing. They weren't happy.
They had my "not even in my wildest dreams" house, and yet they mentioned that they wanted to move to yet another one, over the water.
It was sad. They had everything, and then again, not much at all.
