Substance Abuse

My father drinks bottles a night, does pot and smokes a shit load. He is never here, and when he is he still isn't. It isn't like he is high or drunk of anything, he just zones out. I had a talk with him tonight about it, and he said he needs it because he hasn't been well. He has lost a tremendous amount of weight, and has the smokers cough. He thinks he has cancer, but doesn't want to know about. Does anyone know what he might have if he loses weight and can't gain it. If he drinks, etc to not feel pain. He says he feels pain in his spine. Any ideas?

I have had a drug problem in the past and Im sorry to tell you but your father is making excuses to you and probably to himself to justify his behaviour because within himself he knows its wrong, but facing reality appears more scary to him tham admitting he has a drug problem. He needs to seek medical help with his health issues and also with his drug habit, he can beat this I know that I did it myself, question is does he want to?
