well, i have fun joining contests so i thought i'd start one!

the object is to write a poem with the subjects listed below. THE CATCH... you can only do the poem in the number of lines i give you... (there will be a shorter and longer one in each category)
prizes:
1st place - favorites list, 10 comments and votes
2nd place - 5 comments and votes
3rd place - 3 comments and votes
*2 honorable mentions* -1 comment and 2 votes
there will be 10 openings, so the contest will close either before november 21st (10 days) or when all the spots are closed.
reserves are allowed, but please don't take too long!

Ghosts Don't Cry

Walking around, aimless, lost in the crowd.
Trying to be heard, but the noises are so loud.
After a long day, coming home to fights,
Not getting a word in edgewise; lonely nights.

Welcome to my life, I'm only a ghost,
Not noticed by many, ignored by most.
Often want to break down, and want to die,
Or cry my eyes out, but ghosts don't cry.

Finally a little freedom, out with friends,
But ignored by you, the pain never ends.
Love shown one way, yet hate the other,
Then the time comes to see my mother.

I see her only a little, yet important I'm not,
Complaining and yelling, making cheeks hot.
Talking to her boyfriend for an hour it seems,
Actually spending time with HER is just a dream.

Welcome to my life, a ghost I'll remain,
Many ignore me, many don't know my name.
Often I want to break down, but when I try,
I recall that one thing, ghosts don't cry.

Stolen by the wretched moon

I have your portrait hanging on the stained walls of my room
I like to look at it before I let myself fall within this gloom;
My eyes shed cold tears to commemorate what used to be,
All those days when we were together – just you and me…

For endless weeks and maybe months my fever was up high
My servants all around me - trying to figure out why,
They used to ask me what was wrong, but how was I to tell
That the only one I truly loved was now bound to go to Hell?

Oh my love, so many hours we shared together in pure bliss,
We were so grateful for each other – why must it end like this?
I try to reject everything that connects with you, my dear,
But I still remember your sweet words whispered softly in my ear.

And oh!... the pain that struck me in that fateful night
When your beauty was morphed by that despicable moonlight
When your gracious face was distorted into that of a monster
And the claws that split your fingers grew faster and faster.

That sparkle in your eyes was transforming into muted dark
And still I wonder what had happened to your pure heart
When you howled enraged in the silver moon's pale face
For it had turned you into a creature fallen from grace.

I still remember how you jumped at my throat
But I dodged your attack and ran to my rusty boat -
My hands were trembling with fear so I dropped a paddle
As I wanted to run far away, to not participate in this battle.

And now… late at night before I fall asleep
I can still hear your howl as I silently weep…
And I cannot understand the purpose of this doom -
Why my love, why were you stolen by the wretched moon?

I messed up four people’s orders
So they didn’t get what they wanted to eat
But that’s four orders of food returned
That I can take home, and my family treat!

She walks among the meadow green
And dips the dew from daffodils
Bright rosy cheeks and so serene
With innocence that seems surreal.

She bends to touch a butterfly
On petals of a tender rose
Then she laughs with sheer delight
Caution to the winds, she throws.

Sweet sunny smile upon her lips
Her chubby hands she claps with glee
Accepting summer's gentle kiss
She runs around in revelry.

A tune is heard from deep inside
A voice sent down from up above
Carried down on wings it glides
Into her soul, the sounds of love.

Deep runs the heart of such a child
Who's visions sail the ocean blue
Captured in the dreams, she flies
On shooting stars up to the moon.

[Written for my best friend's granddaughter. Children are such precious gifts.]

Unfit.

She slams the bottle down as she looks into the mirror,
Empty pill bottles scattered all across her floor -
The distorted face staring back at her shudders a deep breath.
Maniacal laughter cracks up and down her spine,
As blood splatters onto the floor from a weakened wrist -
This is not the good-bye she had hoped for.

Breathing in each drop of toxic air
Another poisonous release she downs
As evil takes over her, she is unaware..

Demons swarming under her fragile skin
Glassy eyes becoming windows into hell
Giving in to desires, letting immorality win
Secrets in leaking veins, she must never tell..

well, ive got good new and bad news: good news... these were all extremely great!!! the choice was really hard, so i decided to throw in two honorable mentions as well. bad news: this means that there are 5 ppl who will get 'awarded', but to all the others, you guys did a fantastic job as well!
