Potential

All of us have probably been told that we have potential. "You can do anything if you set your mind to it" right? Well, I thought it was time to see what everyone really thinks about that...

Do I think that quote is true? Absolutely, with a little more behind it, though.. I mean setting your mind to something is half the battle, but completing each step as it comes is more important. Yes, "setting your mind" to something usually implies that you are willing to take those steps, but some people don't really get that... Which is why there are so many people who are at work, hating their jobs, wishing they had better opportunities.

Are all the opportunities there for everyone? Yes, I do believe they are. As we age and make choices, some become more distant than others. Such as, a person who dreams to become an olympic gymnast... That is one thing that you must work your entire life to acheive. If you don't start young enough, your body will become too old to be able to flip around like a little acrobat.

If you acheive something you thought was your dream, and realize that you hate it when you get there, is it too late to change your mind? Or was all that work for nothing?

~ It's never too late to change your mind, unless you are lying on your deathbed. The knowlegde you gained from working hard to get to that goal will help you get to another one.

The only way you can fail is if you don't try at all. Besides, isn't it our mistakes that give us the insight to make better choices? I believe so.

Yes, as that may be a possibility, it is improbable. That doesn't happen very often. But even so, we're all going to die someday and none of us know when that day is going to come. So if we all gave up, because something "could" happen along the way, where would anyone be? Nowhere.

I can understand how you disagree with that, but I did not specify as the families were the ones that said it. Friends, teachers, counselors, etc. But it is sad how many parents are mean to their children. What your parents say does have a lot of power, but it doesn't have to dictate one's life.
