yes, it is an herbal, alcohol drink. Said to raise mind clarity and perception.

They started selling it again in Europe, still banned in the good ol' USA though.

Actually, no longer banned. There is a Spanish-made version using southern wormwood which is allowed in the United States. I believe it's called Absente and runs about $35-40 a bottle.

Absinthe, southern and milder wormwood or not, is definitely an acquired taste. But it was definitely a drink known amongst many an artist.
