Questions to help me write better stories

Okay Im writing this story and so far its ok.
But there are some conflicts that I dont know how the characters should react and stuff.

1) The main character is this depressed gothic guy and hes got alot going on at the time, his mother is dying in hospital and his father's dead, his father died just three weeks ago, Im not sure if girls feel emotions the same as guys do so does he turn to his girlfriend who is also under alot of stress and break down infront of her or does he stay strong for her and never show what he's really feeling?

2) His girlfriends mother is overly protective of her daughter and doesn't want her to get hurt. when she sees that her precious daughter is dating an emo freak guy what does she do? (her son ran away two years ago so thats why she's like that)

Please answer this is important to me.

I guess it depends on what your character is like....is he normally strong or is he like pushed over the edge....you get to know your character and as you go along kind of figure what you want them to be like.
I'd make him be strong for the girl , escpecially since she is going through a hard time too......

Im done that part now, so Im okay, for that part.

I've got another thing

The emo kid just met up with his best friend who he hasn't seen for a long time, and as he found out a week ago tried to steal his girlfriend. Emo kid (thats not his real name but I dont really feel like telling U his name) just found out his mother was giong to die in less then a month, his friend doesn't know so he just starts talking, Emo kid tells him that his mothers going to ie and his friend says hes sorry, emo kid spazzes at him in a mixture of swear words, saying that his friend doesn't know anything about what he'ss going through so he cant be sorry, his friend leaves. Duz this make sense?
