Defensive

Once the bricks where falling down
and the walls were cracking by the days
but now there's plaster, and fix going up
masking you from me in even more ways

behind your wall there is a mote
and in your mote are monsters
each trap you set to keep trespassers out
is making you getting out so much harder

There once was a bridge over your mote
that you put down to let me pass
but now even that has been destroyed
and more traps are being put in and fast

If ever I make it past all this to the castle
You are housed in the highest room of the tallest tower
Defeat the dragon, be a hero,
Climb the stairs only to fall from false power

I make it up to the door
being again defeated by a lock
I stand there and wait in silence
Throughout the castle are my empty knocks

I hear the 'No one's home
come back another day'
so I bow my head in defeat
and try again before I walk away

I'll come back later,
but when the walls get higher
I cant climb forever
because even I get tired of searching
