A very sad and moving poem. Very well done. My bosses best friend died a year ago in a car accident because of wet roads. It's sad that something so little can kill a life.

The emotion here just blew me away and that ending was just heartbreaking to read. I felt each thing you said and I liked how you started with one word beginning each stanza and then described that word .. it was effective and refreshing to read. What a sad and heartbreaking piece. The death of someone we love is so painful. We will always ask why? Then the thoughts of trading places. It should have been me instead. Grief takes over our entire being when we lose the person that is our love. It consumes.

Funeral.
I follow the casket to the grave,
With my black umbrella in hand.
As they lower the casket, I wave.
This sort of goodbye wasn't planned.

This is something that we never plan. Especiallly when someone dies before their time. So hold tight your memories for they will keep you company on many a lonely day.
