Solitudine Infelice

by Wolf Haines   Aug 11, 2008

The sun shines off the turquoise water and onto the land.
The water gently caresses the shore with its slow brushes of the sand.
The palm trees provide the only shade and hang towards the sea.
I look out towards the abyss while the world spins past me.
A solemn bird of paradise calls out for his mate, but he is the only one of his kind.
A school of fish gather near the shore spelling out your name. Is it a trick of the mind?
A fallen palm tree provides me with a seat.
I sit quietly and feel the water stroke my feet.
A single cloud passes overhead and in it I see your face.
I close my mind for a moment and stare into space.
I can hear your voice in my every thought.
I open my eyes and my attention is caught.
That solemn bird calls out again, this time in despair at loneliness.
The school of fish have dispersed and left only emptiness.
The wind has ceased and the waves have stopped.
The palm trees go quiet as their last coconut is dropped.
