Scorched dreams

by cory   Sep 28, 2008

Often intrigued by that treacherous path
Your victims are born from your perilous wrath
Bury the caskets,together we rot
Don't sleep too easy, For justice is sought

We fed and we helped you,We crawled in the dirt
So why is it now I have blood on my shirt
You are betrayal in so many forms
You are the reason we sleep with the worms

Entrenched in the darkness, Forever we drop
Inside of this nightmare, The pain will not stop
Meet with the wicked whenever they come
Explosive resistance, The dead will succumb

I pack up my things and I head for the road
Confession of death,In a breath it is sowed
The force is impressive, dread rings in my ears
Why must this befall me,My greatest of fears

The shadow of night reaches over my face
In spite of my training I'm quite the disgrace
Shredded forever, a cut that wont heal
I'm tasting the cold bitter bite of the steel

Cursed souls are condemned, those you opted to take
A terrible boom,as the ground starts to shake
I lie in my grave, try it out for a bit
The anger subsides with some help from my kit

Desolate hope being entranced by the fire
Fallen to ashes, too scorched to inspire
My friends are now gone, because of your lie
Not even a chance to tell them goodbye

Peer into the dark,To search for what hides
For buried within, A spirit confides
The people that loved, the joy that we shared
The wings of an angel,Forever ensnared

My first thought on reading this poem was WOW, I am actually speechless. The title caught my attention and when I started to read it, I was drawn in and spat out right at the end. I was unhappy that it had come to and end b/c it was such an emotional yet dark piece. I loved every word of it, I liked how it came together so wonderfully.
    Personally, my best stanzas were
"Entrenched in the darkness, Forever we drop
Inside of this nightmare, The pain will not stop
Meet with the wicked whenever they come
Explosive resistance, The dead will succumb

I pack up my things and I head for the road
Confession of death,In a breath it is sowed
The force is impressive, dread rings in my ears
Why must this befall me,My greatest of fears"

Wow. That was intense. It was amazing. Your best poem possibly. Superbly written, flawless flow, excellent rhythm, steady pace, it reads beautifully, so full of raw emotion, pain, anger, love, sadness, confusion, so much is said in your words, so much is behind each line, so deep and insightful. I loved every second of it.
