The Dove and the Crow

by ScarlettaNoir   Mar 7, 2009

A full moon rests above the treetops
Their skeletal limbs scrape the sky
Night has already fallen
Dark as the devil's eyes
Northern winds storm angry blizzards
Freezing all earth to its core
A blanket of snow covers the ground
Not so white, not so pure
Stains of blood from fallen soldiers
Paint the earth with its evil
A world of hatred
A world of death
No place for a dove
No place for an angel

The snow cracks under a footstep
A girl running from the forest
Tears streaming, near frozen on her face
She is afraid, she is lost
Draped in the colors of a midnight murder
She seems like an ally of the darkness
But it is this darkness she fears
It is here she does not belong
Her black hair whips in the blizzard
Blocking her view of clean snow
All she sees is blood
All she sees is death
Loneliness echoes in her soul
Afraid of the shadows surrounding
"Where is my savior?" her whisper echoes
No response to be heard
This is no place for a dove
No place for light

On her knees, she falls to tears
So afraid, so alone
She cries out for her savior
To lift her from this torment
The chains that weigh her ankles down
Cannot be broken alone
Her legs turn cold, numb against the snow
Her heart near its final break
When on the snow a feather falls
Black and shiny as a crow's
She holds it in her hands
Wondering where it came from
Everything around her is dead
There is no life here
It is no place for a crow
Nor a place for a dove

A teardrop touches the feather's bristles
Her memories begin to fill
A feather, like the ones she lost
The wings she once owned
But they tore many years ago
When she collapsed from grace
Her fingers trace its every detail
She only wishes for her wings
She only wishes for her savior
All hope has escaped her soul
And lost she will forever be
Lost in a world of darkness and death
With only a feather to help her believe
But believing is difficult
When you see no proof of life
No proof that someone cares
And again she falters
This is no place for her
No place for a fallen angel

Two shadows creep along the ground
One on each of her sides
She cannot make out a form
The storm plays tricks on her weakened eyes
And then they draw nearer
Right behind her back
And she sees it's a pair of wings
From where she doesn't know
Her peripherals watch them surround her
Shielding her from the bitter cold
And a pair of arms embraces her tightly
She feels she's not alone
A hand wipes away the tears staining her porcelain face
And then holds her hand gently
As she is comforted by this warm embrace
The storm begins to subside
Bringing hope of a better hour
But there is light on the horizon
She knows she must soon hide
This is no place for a savoir
No place for a vampire

The wind is now a calm breeze
The snow no longer so cold
Bloodstains have faded, as though it were a dream
She wonders... Is it a dream?
Maybe just wishful thinking
Or maybe she has died
And this person is her angel
The angel to guide her spirit elsewhere
But then she feels their chest pulsing
The dead don't carry heartbeats
"Who are you?" she questions
She feels them leaning closer to her ear
Their warm breath tickling
"I am your crow, here to rescue my dove..." his voice, melting
"Why are you here?" she replies softly
"You cried for a savoir in your time of despair...
So a savoir you have, right here with you...
To always be here for you..."
She feels a thump within her chest
A light flickers in her soul
And she knows she is not alone
She will never again be alone
Maybe this is a place for a crow
A place for a dove

He gently turns her facing him
She looks into his eyes
Deep and brown, longing and hopeful
Underneath is a crying soul
A need for comfort
A need for love
He smiles, placing a hand upon her cheek
"You needn't cry anymore, my love...
Your tears needn't be shed again..."
A kiss so soft upon her lips
A moment where time stops dead
A feeling of completeness in her heart
She gazes up at him
Still laying in his arms
All she wants is to never let go, to never lose this man
A ray of sunlight dances nearby
And she flinches at its promising burn
He stands, holding her close to his chest
"Do not worry, my love...
I promise to protect you from harm..."
His black wings extend, he looks down at her
"I will give you back your wings...
I will give you all that you desire...
I will do anything for you...
Anything for my dove..."
A smile plays upon her lips, happiness brimming
"And I will give you all you desire...
I will do anything for you...
Anything for my crow...
I love you..."
He kisses her once more
"And I love you..."
A flutter of wings
And the pain is behind them
The shadows are gone
Before them lies happiness...
Perfect harmony...
Eternity...
A place for a crow
A place for a dove
