Sober

by Inside the Liar   Sep 9, 2009

I've heard talk that says
that the heart
is at its worst when it's
sober.

And yet sobriety
is what is yearned for
in society.

Which seems to beg
the question:
Which would you rather have?
A sober, somewhat brittle heart
that has never known love
nor the feelings that come alongside?
Or.
A heart which has become
so enthralled with the passions promised
that it chases after the feeling
time and time again until
it becomes habit?

And
is there an in-between?
Maybe. Maybe not.

If you could build your world
on promises that the heart
is capable of making,
you'd be living in a palace
at the top of the world.
But if you did the exact same thing
using promises that the heart
is capable of breaking...
you'd still be living in a palace
at the top of the world.

Would your world be any
colder because of this?
Would it have any less color?
Chances are that
the parallel worlds
would look exactly the same.
Even to a critical eye.

Is there ever a
winner in the game
of love?
Or is whether or not
you win or lose
entirely up to you?

And is it harder to change
the way you lose
if you believe you've never
won?

Alcoholism of the body
is a disease.
Is alcoholism of the heart
a mistake?

Abuse a substance long enough
and eventually it will begin
to abuse you.

I've heard all the talk that says
that heart is at its worst
when it is sober.

However.
An in-between
Two extremes:
Drunk and sober love
Would be preferable.

Although I'd prefer
Sobriety
to drunkenness.
