Re-reading our story

by Beauty In The Breaking   Sep 13, 2009

Re-reading all our old letters,
signs of us falling in love,
I've kept them all
from the day that we met
till our most resent yesterdays.

I can't help but smile
as I read the things you've said,
the games of getting to know each other,
little wars of who loves more,
tracing back to the early days.

We were both so very young
in so many different ways,
and reading our letters over
you can see us as we grow,
become different people.

We've been through so very much
but we're still holding tight,
determined that we'll make it through
till we reach the finish line
where all the pain will be worth it.

Somehow through all this time,
the days, the weeks, the months and years
we've managed to change and grow
and still grow to be still closer,
holding tight across the distance.

Seeing all the laughter we've shared,
all the tears we've cried together,
how we've managed to make this work
across all the miles
that stretch out between you and me.

People said we wouldn't make it this far,
well we're still proving them wrong
and the day when they can't argue it anymore,
when they see us hand in hand
is the day I'm waiting for.
