Split Second

by Mel   Mar 24, 2010

That split second
when you first open your eyes,
you forget that nothing's the same.
For just one second
you forget
that yesterday, everything changed.

That split second
when you first open your eyes,
is the best part of your day.
Your vision is blurred, your heart unconcerned;
you forget
that yesterday, everything changed.

That split second
when you first open your eyes
holds no stomach twisting pain.
No gasping for air, your heart unaware;
you forget
that yesterday, everything changed.

That second split second
after you open your eyes,
you remember that nothing's the same.
Your heart drops, your breath stops;
you remember
that yesterday, everything changed.

    Some poems use repetition, and just do a horrible job capturing the emphasis. You have done a fine job! Every stanza, I felt more, and more strong about the last two lines. Also, the sympathy for the first couple lines increases as well. Good job catching my attention.

    I gave it 5/5

    Keep up the good work!
