Strangers

Nothing was more astonishing than these words that my eyes could see,
The ones that went on for a little longer than they should. . .
And this is all I know of you-- these words-- I know you so well by now. . .

And I was walking past that room as you stood there; I knew you stood there. . .
Shifting eyes, unfamiliar faces, fleeting paces; I remembered those words.
And when the night comes, I just cant wait to be astonished by you.

Here are the words right in front of me, close enough to make me smile. . .
Only words, but Im going. . . Im smiling, Im flattered-- maybe Im scattered.
But tonight I just need you to enchant me with this chatter. . .

Today you walked at your farthest, but I can almost touch you,
At your quietest, but I can almost hear you.
Your eyes away from me, but I can almost feel your stare.
The passing crowd and blaring voices; you know Im there. . .

These messages get longer tonight; I saw you today, I want to see you tonight.
These words are so easy-- they are so hard. . .
For so long these words have made this story, something of an imagination, a potential. . .

But I wont hear your voice, or look into your eyes,
Because these words are only at night, only for my eyes. . .
And I'm able to see you, able to smell your cologne in the wind as you walk past everyday,
my shaking hands, your hesitation, the silence; so tantalizing.
Im wonderstruck, Im hopeful-- these words to come alive. . .

And we might try to waive it off, its useless,
But these words will always make their way, til these buttons burn off. . .
These words, these daydreams, this imagination, this potential-- too beautiful to let go.
So just walk right on by closely, Ill keep my head down, no danger.
Let this be our secret of two timidly hopeful virtual strangers. . .
