Glass Bed

by Xanthe & Max   May 5, 2012

Broken eyes look heavenwards
trying to find peace within a glass bed.
Empty words etched on stone
hold undiscovered meaning.

I had everything I ever wanted,
but life is never fair.
With a hand, it gives
and with the other, it takes.
It took away my love who left me today.
Now, I no longer feel alive,
nor am I dead.

I couldn't take it anymore,
but I never knew I'd end up here,
in this glass bed.

The glass bed to me represents the place and time you feel you are in your life. Where being a glass bed isn't particularly a comfortable place. Making sense as the poem reads on you describe the unfairness of life and impart a cool quote

    With a hand, it gives
and with the other, it takes.

you also describe the feeling of losing a love and how you done feel alive anymore. Now with all these things taking place, you just are not happy with what your left with, the solitude of the world as it moves around you. like lying alone in a glass bed/uncomfortable existence.

thats what I got from it at least.

great poem. one of my favorites of yours.

    "Broken eyes look heavenwards
trying to find peace within a glass bed.
    Empty words etched on stone
    hold undiscovered meaning."

--I like the starting part, the imagery and the emotions that conveyed here. It was written deep for me, so I can't picture out clearly the message behind it--all I understand about is the "peace" of mind maybe...to clear the things that bothering in the persona's thoughts. I like the part where written: "Empty words etched on stone hold undiscovered meaning."
Words--the persona trying to reach in his/her mind to reveal the ideas that the persona trying to know or wanted to write.

"I had everything I ever wanted,
    but life is never fair.
    With a hand, it gives
and with the other, it takes.
It took away my love who left me today.
Now, I no longer feel alive,
    nor am I dead."

--Very meaningful part. In the first line the persona expressed about his/her love was the complete world or we say love completes her/his life...but in the second line the frustrations and disappointment changed the persona's life when her/his love of her life disappeared and treating her life as dead. I really like the imagery here. I know that this colab was related to Max....mostly in this part.

    I couldn't take it anymore,
but I never knew I'd end up here,
    in this glass bed.

--The ending part seems to ending the persona's life..and a glass bed is the metaphor for death or coffin? You know I read this piece for how many times but I can't understand the meaning behind this...so, I always left this poem with no comment...now, I know...and I fully understand all about this piece. Really great...written amazingly!
